| Military: |
1812 |
1st Regiment,
(Sutton's) Ohio Militia [5];
NOTE: there were at least two, possibly three William Whitsitt/
Whitsett/ Whiteside from Kentucky in the War of 1812; William of Logan
County, son of William and Ellen Menees Whitsitt of Russellville,
officer in the Kentucky Mounted Volunteers was one of them.
I believe William of the Ohio Militia to be William Whitsitt later
of Indiana. On 30 June 1812 William Whitsett also of Clark County,
Ky., son of John Whitsett of Orange County, N. C. made a power of
attorney to Henry Bradley giving Bradley the right to sell land and
provide for Whitsett's family as directed by his wife (DB 9, pp. 49,
50, 77). This sounds very much like William was preparing to
go to war. |
