HAPPY 100th AUNT JESSIE

Aunt Jessie (Wall) Powers and Aunt Grace (Wall) Shanafelt (age 93), Aunt Jessie's (born on April 25, 1911) 100th birthday party, April 27, 2011.

Cousins Elsie Hammond (left) and Ruth (Lahr) Shanafelt at Aunt Jessie Power's birthday party, April 27, 2011

Aunt Jessie's party.  At the first table (left->right) cousins Margo and husband Clayton Raifsnider, cousins Bill and Shirley (Shanafelt) Beck and Aunt Grace (Wall) Shanafelt.

The man reading the newspaper is Skip Spurrier, husband of cousin Clara Jane (Mullet) Spurrier at her mother's 100th birthday party.  I believe Clara Jane is hidden behind the post.  That is a shame since I have no recent pictures of her.

Cousins Francis (Allen) Titsworth and sister Mary Gaylon (Allen) Wells.  I do not know when this picture was taken, but I received it from Fran in April 2011.

Brother Art Wall at the Yuma, Arizona Marine Airbase in April 2011. For more on this picture read Art's article in:
Our Family News April-May edition.

Our nephew Jeff Wall of Newport Beach, California and his show '69 Camero at the car show in Seal Beach, California in April 2011.

Bob Bruning, an old friend from my high school days in Ohio came to visit me in June.  I had not seen him since 1959, almost exactly 52 years ago.
10 June 2011

Bob came with a friend of his in Huston, Virgil Maier who wanted to go horseback riding in Arizona.  I borrowed Dollar and Cinnamon from neighbor and friend Rosie Snell.

Virgil  on Cinnamon and me trying to mount Dollar.  It has been a couple of months since Dollar was ridden last and he was being a bit feisty with me.

No trail ride is complete without a trail dog.  Neighbor's dog Roxie joins us as we warm up the horses.

We have several hundred acres of open desert behind our place where we do most of our horseback riding. This is Virgil and me as we head out.

The last season when we had enough rain to make this area lush and green was in 2005.  As a consequence of a prolonged drought, vegetation is dead or dying.  Only the most hardy Mesquite and creosote bushes have life in them.

Virgil said that the thing he wanted to do most when the visited me was to go horseback riding.  I am happy we were able to arrange it.  My horse Passy has never been riden and my thoroughbred Mocha has a problem with her front hoof that has kept me from riding her much.

It was not a very long ride, but Virgil was satisfied. Virgil:  We will make it longer next time when you have more time to spend with us.

Grandson Mike and I had lunch with Bob and Virgil at Denny's in San Tan Valley before they continued their trip to Grand Canyon then north to Glacier National Park
10 June 2011

Our son Bruce moved back to Arizona from Nashville in early July.  On July 12th his daughter Jessica flew in from Oregon to see all of us.
